Get a refund for your Shop Subscription if you need to close your eBay Shop

No doubt that the coronavirus has affected businesses of all sizes in every industry. The COVID-19 outbreak has sent ripples around the world, crippling the economy of many countries and striking fear into the general population.

The coronavirus outbreak has caused an interruption in the supply chain causing some businesses to lose profits, in some cases, they even had to close shop. Since brick and mortar shops are forced to close down, for the time being, you might think that eCommerce stores must be thriving. The sad truth is that the eCommerce sector has been hit just as hard as physical stores in some cases, but in others, stores are getting a record amount of sales.

Luckily for some online entrepreneurs, especially for the ones that mainly sell on eBay, the eBay shop Subscription Coronavirus Relief Refunds program is now live.

What does this program mean to eBay sellers?

The aim of this program is to relieve some of the pressure due to the changing circumstances around COVID-19, meaning that eBay will now refund shop subscription fees if you have to shut down your eBay store for an extended period of time.

Ideally, you will keep your eBay shop up and running because the government has stipulated that eCommerce has to be encouraged, as it’s an essential part of the economy, meaning that the business must go on. Luckily the government is aware that many businesses are unable to continue their activities, because their sales have fallen to zero or that they cannot apply social distancing within their warehouses or offices. In this case, the eBay Shop Subscription Coronavirus Relief Refunds program effectively enables you to pause your business activity without losing all of your eBay settings and positioning, enabling you to re-launch your shop as soon as you are able to continue your operations.

How does the program work?

The shop subscription refund is available for April or May, or both, if you turn on the holiday settings and hide all the fixed price listings between the 1st and 25th of the calendar month. You will get this refund as a credit, in your eBay account. If you turn on the holiday settings and hide all foxed price listings for 13 days or more between the 1st and 25th of the calendar month, eBay will credit you 50% of the month’s subscription.

How can you receive the shop subscription refund?

The eBay Shop Subscription Corona Relief Refund is only available via invitation. You will have to check your eBay My Messages or your email for a notification if you qualify. If you are eligible for this promotion and want to take advantage of it, you’ll need to press the opt-in button and then make sure to turn on holiday settings and hide all of your fixed price listings.

If you receive your eBay invoice at the end of each month, the credits from April’s shop subscription will appear in your invoice dated April 30th. Any credit for May’s shop subscription will appear in your invoice dated May 31st.

Likewise, if you receive eBay invoices in the middle of each month, any credits from April’s shop subscription will appear in your invoice dated May the 15th. Any credit for May’s shop subscription will appear in your invoice dated June the 15th.

What if you have changed your shop subscription during this period?

If you have changed your shop subscription during this period, eBay will look at the actual subscription fees incurred in each period and credit back based on this value.

You are eligible to get an eBay shop subscription refund if you had an active shop subscription on the 28th of March and if you are not a private seller.

The eBay Shop Subscription Coronavirus Relief Refunds program is a breath of fresh air for many sellers in these times of need. Hopefully, this program will save a lot of businesses from going bankrupt, especially small to medium-sized ones, as these are the backbone of the economy.
