Is selling on Amazon worth it if you’re already selling on eBay?

Is selling on Amazon worth it if you’re already selling on eBay?

You’re already a well-known and trustworthy eBay seller, you’ve had your business for a few years now, everything is fine, but you’re looking to expand your horizons.

The next logical step would be Amazon, correct? Well, that depends. Some might say that there’s no reason to be selling on both eBay and Amazon, but we think otherwise. Keep reading to find out why…

The first and foremost reason is that Amazon is the largest online marketplace. Seriously.

1) The majority of people are shopping on Amazon by default

You’re probably an avid buyer yourself, so tell me, which website do you first visit when you’re shopping online? Amazon, most likely. This is because Amazon is where the majority of people are shopping online. According to a study, Amazon has about 10 times more shoppers than eBay. Ten times. In other words, for every person buying on eBay, there are 10 other people buying on Amazon. Think about how many potential customers you’re missing out on.
Honestly, this paragraph alone should have already convinced you to start selling on Amazon. But if you want more reasons, keep on reading…

2) FBA – Fulfilled by Amazon

To find out more about FBA, click here to read our last week’s article. But in short, Amazon offers you the ability to send your products to an Amazon warehouse and have them shipped to customers directly by Amazon. Sure, there’s a slight cost involved, but if you think about the upsides, it’s worth it. All you have to do is package your items, send them over to Amazon’s warehouse and that’s it! You just have to wait for the profits to rake in, there’s nothing else you need to do, as Amazon will take care of everything.

3) Customers have high purchase intent on Amazon

What does this mean? Well, think about why you visited Amazon last time. If you’re like the vast majority of shoppers, you thought of something you needed (or wanted) and you went to Amazon to look at your options and, ultimately, to buy it.

Customers who use Amazon have high purchase intent, meaning that they are looking for something specific and are willing and ready to buy. However, not all online shoppers are so ready to buy.

If you have a Shopify site, for example, people might come across your store through Google or Instagram. Their intent is to browse, to see what kinds of products you sell, and to check out your prices. These shoppers are still gathering information; they haven’t necessarily decided to buy yet. See what I mean?

4) Ads

Amazon offers an amazing ads platform. If you’re already selling on eBay, then you might already have a few promoted listings, but to be honest, they’re not even close to Amazon’s ads. Shopify sellers, for example, can choose to run advertisements through Google Ads. But there isn’t a native platform to create ads to promote your store.

Amazon, however, offers a thorough and extensive ad platform that can get your listings in front of the right people. You can also create very specific audience targeting. This is so you don’t spend your money on advertising your products to the wrong people. Additionally, the platform gives you a lot of data, which provides insights for tweaking and optimizing your ad campaigns.

5) Easy to start selling right now – low initial investment

Amazon is friendly to new sellers without much to start with. There’s an active market for used and refurbished items, so you can start out selling things from yard sales, thrift stores, or even around your house. If you have some skill with rebuilding or refurbishing, all the better — fix up some small appliances so they work like new, or put a new battery in last year’s laptop, and they’ll be perfect for bargain-hunters.

Amazon’s listing fees are also relatively low, and as an individual seller you won’t have to pay until something sells. Once you’re ready to move up and start competing, a Professional Seller account doesn’t cost all that much and opens up some powerful selling tools.

And think about it like this, if you’re already an Ad-Lister user and you’re selling on eBay, that means you already have all of your products ready to go. You know what that means? You can start listing on Amazon right now, within minutes. It’s literally a matter of adding a new platform and start listing your items. Easy, right?

Closing thoughts

At the end of the day, you should always include Amazon in your online selling strategy. This platform is a great complement to the platforms you are already using. As the company continues to grow, we will see more and more of the market share going to this e-commerce powerhouse, so don’t miss out on the potential sales!
